We have a number of loadcell calibration rigs that all use equipment whose calibration is traceable to European standards. Traceability is maintained by the use of external calibration laboratories and a programme of equipment calibration comparisons carried out in-house.
These apply forces to the loadcell being calibrated using accurate weights. The output of the loadcell is measured using a precision DC ratio meter calibrated by the National Physical Laboratory. We have three rigs for forces from 0.1N to 10kN (10gf to 1 tonnef). We have weights available from 1g to 20kg with a total weight in excess of 1 tonne. 1gf equates to a force of approximately 0.01N.
Transfer calibration rigs apply forces using hydraulic rams. The force is measured using an accurate reference loadcell. The outputs of both loadcells are measured using precision DC ratio meters. The reference loadcells and DC ratiometers are calibrated by the National Physical Laboratory.
